In the pursuit of developing non-invasive audio tools for beekeeping, we have released the ability to attach an audio recording of a hive under in the hive inspection flow.
Record your hives and gain certainty about your expected survival !
No time to sampling all your hives for varroa? No problem sample a portion and record all your hives, we will be able to project an accurate expected varroa level for all the hives you’ve record even if you didn’t sample them !
You wanna help and contribute to the development of these tools?
Simply shove in your phone microphone in the hive entrance prior to inspecting your hives (See picture below)
Leave the recording going for the full 15 seconds
And continue your usual flow
Ideally you can grade your hives after having complete the recording and if time sample your varroa level
Over the last couple of years we’ve continued working on hive recording with the INRS , University Laval and the CRSAD to explore the potential of hive recording to gain insights about the hive strength, health or general state. We’ve not only shown high potential but also publish open source dataset to allow the community to continue building more value from hive recording (Nature publication, Removal of voice from recording, Potential of raw audio from nectar research hives, Denoising audio, Winter survival predictions and more).
Detecting hive at risk, varroa level and hive strength will be our first focus in terms of tool we want to bring to your Nectar app.
By augmenting your capacity and standardizing the data entry especially for grading, we allow our users to gain the value of sensors without having the cost of the hardware. In addition, we ease the grading and the varroa sampling allowing beekeeper to get a sense of these states without even having to open the hives. This means beekeeper could gain information about their hives in winter or rainy days….middle of winter, no problem!
