Insights is Nectar's data analytic feature that allows you to explore your data, create custom visualizations, and save personalized dashboards filled with graphs, charts, and figures for future analysis.
To use the feature:
1. Navigate to the Insights tab
2. Click 'Create dashboard' and name your dashboard
Dashboards are where you can save your insights. You can create different dashboard for different aspects of the business, different managers, different times of the season, etc.
3. Click 'Create Insight'
4. Select a dataset containing the data require for your insight.
The available data sets currently are:
Yards - Yard based data (i.e.. Alive hives per yard type)
Hives - Data from hives or groups of hives (i.e.. Hives fed per yard, Alive Queen lines in Operation, Mortality of untreated hives etc.)
Hives Trend - Data from hives over a time period (i.e.. Varroa per yard over the last 3 seasons, Queen lines applied this season, etc.)
5. Name your Insight
6. Select a property for the horizontal and Vertical Axes
7. Select the aggregation
If you select the Hives or Hives trend data sets, you will need to set the proper aggregation. The aggregation changes how the data is displayed. The options are as follows:
Hives Dataset Aggregations:
COUNT - Displays the data as the total count of the property. (ie. Total Queen type)
AVG - displays the average times the property has been applied to the hives
% - Displays the percentage of the hives in the set that have had the property applied
SUM - Displays the SUM of the property (total of time the practice has been applied)
AVG - Displays the Average application of a property per hive, of all hives that have that property
MIN - Of all hives with the property, displays the minimum applications
MAX - Of all hives with the property, displays the maximum applications
8. Apply filters
Filter the data in your insight by using filters. You can use the filters to exclude certain properties from the data used in the insight. For example, if you have a queen line you have not used yet, you can filter it out so its not included. You can apply multiple filters at once.
Tip: If you are only interested in data on your alive hives, filter out deadouts. Its also a good practice to filter out 'removed hives' if their data is not relevant.
9. Select the proper time frame
You can select a relative time frame (number of seasons) or a Fixed time frame and set the dates.
10. Select the proper visualization for the insight
11. Save your Insight, and resize or move it on your Dashboard.
Click 'Save' to save your insight to your dashboard. Back at the dashboard, you can resize or move your insights around the dashboard. The dashboard will auto save your changes.
Adding Comparisons
1. Select 'Add Comparison' to add another property to your visualization to compare it against the properties already in your insight.
Comparisons can help you analyze different aspects of your business against others. For example, an insight displaying oxalic treatments per hive per yard becomes much more powerful when a comparison is added displaying average varroa counts per yard. See photo below.
