Tracking and Evaluating Mating Yards and Mating Nucs

Learn how to track mating Yards in Nectar

Updated over a week ago

Watch this video for a walkthrough on tracking mating yards:

Tracking Mating Yards

You can use Nectar to record how many Mating Nucs you have per yard, how many cells you are placing into a yard at a time, and how many queens you have caught per yard.

To use the Mating Yard Sliders on Yards, the yard will need to be active, meaning it has at least one hive in it. Bring a Nectar Tag or Sticker to the yard and scan it in so you can report on the yard.

When at the mating Yards, use a Yard inspection to record the following information:

  • Use the Mating Nucs in Yard Slider to record how many mating nucs you have per yard

  • Use the Cells Placed slider to record how many cells you are placing at any given time in a yard

  • Use the Queens Caught slider to record how many mated queens you have caught at any given time.

Evaluating Mating Yards

To analyze this data in Nectar, head the to the Insights tab in the Manager's Portal. Then, go to the 'Queen Rearing' Dashboard.

Here you will find Insights reporting on the success of your mating:

  • Overall Take Rate: Compare Total Cells Placed vs Queens Caught

  • Take Rate Per Yard: Compare cells placed vs Queens caught per yard

You will also find information on Data collected in the last 2 weeks, to help make decisions and plan for the short term:

  • Total Cells Placed in Last 2 Weeks

  • Total Queens Caught in Last 2 Weeks

  • Cells Placed Per Yard in Last 2 Weeks

  • Queens Caught per yard in Last 2 weeks
